Roots Southern Table, North Texas chef Tiffany Derry make James Beard finalist lists

We are honored to announce that Roots Southern Table and Chef Tiffany Derry have been nominated as finalists for two James Beard awards in the categories of Best New Restaurant and Best Chef, Texas. According to the Dallas Morning News, Roots was pronounced as one of the 10 national spots as a finalist for Best New Restaurants, and The New York Times’ “50 Most Vibrant and Delicious Restaurants.”

Tiffany and Tom Foley founded T2D Concepts, LLC, the parent company of Roots Southern Table, to serve great food, deliver great service, spark great conversation, and create great impact. Tiffany and Tom are proud of being recognized as finalists and, more importantly, thankful for the support of the community and commitment of the Roots Southern Table team! We are grateful for the support of the North Texas community who continue to rally around our missions, you can read more at your favorite news source - WFAA, Dallas News, DMagazine, CultureMap and Dallas Eater.

The mission of the James Beard Awards is to recognize exceptional talent and achievement in the culinary arts, hospitality, media, and broader food system, as well as a demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive. As a black-owned business with the mission to create economic opportunity for historically marginalized communities, Tiffany and Tom are truly humbled by the James Beard Award nominations - the “Oscars” of the restaurant industry!

The Dallas Business Journal also profiled Tiffany and Tom last February focusing on the company’s mission and highlighting the Dallas based T2D Concepts, the engine behind chicken brands Roots Chicken Shak — which has two locations in Plano and Austin — and Roots Southern Table.

When asked about the two concepts, Tom shared that Roots Southern Table will be different from Roots Chicken Shak in the fact that it’s a full-service, full-menu restaurant delivering an approachable, elevated dining experience. Though different in concept, Tom emphasized that the underlying principles and core values are the same and serve as the foundation for the restaurants. “It's the idea of inclusivity. And equity is something that really brought Tiffany and me together, from a mission perspective….,” Foley said. “The theme that we're driving at, particularly with Roots Southern Table, is to say everyone is invited to our table….”

Tiffany and Tom, with warm hearts, thank you for joining our Table and making the Roots Southern Table team feel welcome in the DFW community and beyond.

The winners of the James Beard Award will be announced on June 13th. Stay tuned for more.
